Players, official corner glory in armwrestling Nationals

Odisha achieved notable success both on and off the competition arena of the 40th National Arm Wrestling Championship, which was held at Nagpur, Maharashtra earlier this year from May 20 to 24. Odisha players bagged nine medals, which included two gold, four silver and three bronze.

Besides the achievements of the players, Odisha Armwrestling Association secretary Kedar Chandra Sarangi was elected as the General Secretary of Indian Arm Wrestling Federation for a term of four years (2016 to 2020).

Surprisingly, the information regarding these achievements was announced almost one month later at a press conference, held here at Utkal Karate School today. Medal-winning armwrestlers along with Sarangi were felicitated on the occasion.

ODISHA MEDALLISTS: Charan Nayak: One silver each in men and junior boys’ 55kg categories. Shankar Kahali: One gold in junior boys’ 60kg category. Goutam Kahali: One bronze in men’s 70kg category. Rahul Mahar: One gold in men’s 80kg category. Somanath Patra: One bronze in men’s 80kg category. Chandan Kuamr Behera: One silver each in men’s and physically challenged 110kg categories. Lucky Rani Patra: One bronze in women’s 80kg category.
